DRAM

DRAM, short for dynamic random access memory, is a type of memory chip used as a computer or server's fast, short-term working memory, holding data that is actively being used so a processor can access it quickly. It needs to be constantly refreshed with power to retain data, which is where the "dynamic" in its name comes from.

DRAM is one of the two dominant categories of memory chip alongside NAND flash memory, and demand for it has become closely tied to growth in data centers and AI infrastructure, which require large amounts of high-speed memory. Only a handful of companies in the world manufacture DRAM at meaningful scale.
